GPS’s Teacher of the Year celebration will be held Monday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at Meridian Technology Center’s South Division campus.
“I wanted to remind everyone that the Teacher of the Year celebration will look different this year, due to the increased popularity of the event,” Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson said. “We'll be separating it from the February Board of Education meeting. We expect this to be an even more memorable event. We want to make sure the entire community understands that they are invited.”
Simpson told the school board that GPS wanted to have a space large enough to recognize the hard work and dedication of its teachers.
“We wanted to have a space that we could highlight our teachers that do such a great job and not couple it with the Board meeting, because we feel like that, you're trying to get too many things done at once,” he said. “We want to just focus on the Teacher of the Year and obviously, the Board members, we hope that you can join us, and we hope the community can join us, as well. We plan to have some light snacks and some drinks.”
In other matters, the school board approved a real estate contract for the purchase of a house and the property that sits at 2111 West Cleveland, adjacent to Cotteral Elementary School.
The BOE also approved an agreement with Interquest to provide contraband inspection services utilizing non-aggressive contraband detection canines.
The school district has used the company since 2011. The campuses covered under this agreement are the High School and Junior High. They provide 6 full day visits per school year. The total cost is $3,150.00.
