A resolution to approve amendments to an agreement creating the 9-1-1 Association of Central Oklahoma Governments didn’t pass through Logan County’s Board of County Commissioners when they convened on Monday morning.
Ward 1 Commissioner, Marven Goodman, explained the issue to the other County Commissioners during the meeting. He said the recommended amendments would change the way weighted voting is done and wouldn’t help the county.
“The way it will work in the future is that three metropolitan areas control the vote on ACOG 9-1-1 totally,” Goodman said. “I mean, three of them could block anything they don’t like. So, if we bring something to the board, to the county, and those three metropolitan organizations don’t like it, then they block it.”
As it currently stands, six separate counties (a quorum) would have to agree to pass something. Goodman said between Norman and Edmond, those areas control what happens at the board.
“I don’t support weighted voting in those kind of situations at all,” Goodman said. “If you show up at that meeting for Logan County, you should get one vote. If Norman shows up, they should get one vote.”
The solution the Logan County Commissioners agreed to keeps the county in ACOG, but opposes the amendments that the ACOG 9-1-1 Board of Directors approved before sending it to the county.
At the meeting, the Board of County Commissioners also approved the funding for Ognibene Floor to strip and reseal floors in the courthouse.
The Board of County Commissioners agreed to pay $4,135.78 to address the maintenance for the process.
