Home Saved as Firefighters Handle Structure Fire

Justin Mains, a Captain at the Guthrie Fire Department, was in the perfect place at the right time for residents inside a home Wednesday evening.

While he was on duty, Mains went to his personal truck behind the Guthrie Fire Department when he heard a pop. He identified a storage shed on fire sitting behind a nearby house.

Chief Eric Harlow said the fire was starting to spread to the backside of the house. Mains hurried inside, grabbed everybody and loaded up. Harlow said the fire was knocked out quickly.

The firefighters on scene informed the unsuspecting residents of the situation. Harlow confirmed that nobody was hurt at the scene.

The house sustained minimal damage. Harlow said the shed was “pretty much destroyed” in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Harlow did say the shed has been on fire recently, but couldn’t remember what the cause of the previous fire was for comparison.

“It very well could have ended a lot worse had he (Mains) not been outside and heard it and saw it,” Harlow said.
