A project designed to enhance and improve sidewalks in downtown Guthrie has reached its conclusion.
The project, which began earlier this year, involved retrofitting sidewalks down Division Street from Cleveland Avenue south to Harrison Avenue. The purpose of the project was to not only provide necessary improvements to the sidewalks, but also ensure that they became ADA accessible for all.
Funding for the project was provided by the Transportation Alternatives grant program, a program run by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The City of Guthrie also contributed 20% of the cost-share. Ellsworth Construction, a Tulsa-based company, provided construction for the project.
While the sidewalks received an overhaul, areas within the construction zone that featured brick sidewalks were saved and preserved.
“We are excited to share that any previously existing brick sidewalks were carefully removed and returned,” Eddie Faulkner, Guthrie City Manager, said. “We extend our deepest gratitude to our current and former city council members, hardworking staff, supportive community members and the design team for their contributions to this project.”
