OKLAHOMA CITY — Guthrie High School senior John “Ridge” Garrett recently completed a week of service as a page for state Sen. Chuck Hall, R-Perry, during the 10th week of the legislative session, April 6–10.
Garrett served in the office of the Senate Appropriations chairman, assisting with daily duties during one of the busiest times at the Capitol.
“Ridge was a hardworking page who was a tremendous help to my office and the constituents of Senate District 20,” Hall said. “He gained valuable, behind-the-scenes insight into how state government operates, including the process of developing and passing a state budget.”
The Senate page program offers high school juniors and seniors a firsthand look at the legislative process. Pages assist with committee meetings and daily floor sessions throughout the week.
During their time at the Capitol, pages met with Gov. Kevin Stitt, Senate President Pro Tempore Lonnie Paxton and Senate Minority Leader Julia Kirt. They also participated in mock committee meetings and floor sessions, debating bills from the 2026 legislative session.
Pages toured the Oklahoma History Center and the recently renovated Oklahoma State Capitol, which features artwork highlighting the state’s history.
Garrett is active in agricultural activities, including showing pigs and judging livestock through FFA. He has also participated in Wreaths Across America in Guthrie.
After graduation, Garrett plans to study agribusiness at Redlands Community College, where he has received a scholarship, before transferring to either Oklahoma State University or Texas Tech University. He plans to continue judging livestock while pursuing his degree.
He is the son of Mark and Claudia Garrett.
