Paul W Sites

Paul W Sites, 94, transitioned into heaven on September 25, 2021, in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was born in Booneville, Arkansas, May 12, 1927, to James Hawley and Jimmie Walter (Cauthron) Sites. Paul was raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Paul loved very much his wife, JoAnn (Rankin). Their acquaintance began when they were children, when Paul hid behind a tree and threw rocks to get her attention. He got a severe scolding from his mother for doing that! But years later their acquaintance grew into friendship and then love. They were married in Fort Smith on December 27, 1948. That love here on earth lasted for 72 years. They have two daughters, SuzAnne Munoz (Thomas) of Rockwall, Texas, and Sandra Breeding (Steve) of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Paul’s girls say he was the best husband and Daddy, the best nursemaid whenever any of them got sick, the best fixer of any and all things around the house or any broken car or piece of machinery, and one of the friendliest, kindest, most honest and fair persons anyone could hope to meet. His family takes comfort knowing that his Christian faith has been rewarded.

Paul worked for OG&E for over 40 years, retiring in 1987. He often joked that he began digging holes by hand for setting poles, and ended up in the corporate office in Oklahoma City. He was very proud of his tenure there, but many of his fondest memories were from the time that he worked in Fort Smith, particularly on a line crew, climbing poles, and the camaraderie he enjoyed with his fellow crew members. In fact, he maintained lifelong friendships with several of them.

He was also very proud of his service in the United States Navy during WWII, where he served aboard the USS Cortland. He was so determined to serve that he convinced his father to sign him up for military service when he was only 17. Throughout the years he and JoAnn attended many USS Cortland ship reunions across the United States.

In addition to JoAnn and his daughters, he is survived by 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and his beloved cat, Oscar. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, his parents, and his siblings, Edward, Gwenith and Glennon.

There will be an indoor memorial service in his shop at his home on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 1:00 P.M. Bring your own lawn chair.

Paul will be inurned at the Fort Smith National Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
