Dortha Louise Taylor, age 97, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on her birthday, April 22, 2025, after living a vibrant, full, and remarkable life. Born on April 22, 1928, to John Travoy Taylor and Lovie Harriett (Overstreet) Taylor, Dortha was a beloved aunt, friend, and cherished member of her family and community.
Dortha’s personality was as bright and fiery as her signature red hair. Known for her spunk and her indomitable spirit, she was a hard worker who gave her all to everything she did. Whether it was caring for her family, her friends, or the dogs she loved dearly, Dortha’s heart was always full of affection and warmth. She had a special way of making those around her feel seen, appreciated, and loved.
Throughout her life, Dortha brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. She was quick-witted, with a sharp sense of humor, and was known for her ability to lift others up even in challenging times. Her life was one of resilience and strength, and she faced every hurdle with grace and determination.
She is survived by her nephew, Scott Taylor, and his wife, Beth, as well as their children, Ryan and Lauren Taylor, all of Guthrie, OK. Dortha was preceded in death by her brothers, Floyd Taylor and Everett Taylor, and her parents, John Travoy Taylor and Lovie Harriett (Overstreet) Taylor.
Dortha will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, loyalty, and perseverance will live on in the memories of those who had the privilege of calling her family or friend.
A private family service will be held to honor her life and memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to a local animal shelter, reflecting her lifelong love of animals.
May Dortha rest in peace, forever remembered and loved by those who were lucky enough to know her.
