1954-2025

Michael “Mike” James Monahan was born on April 15, 1954, in Lake Forest, Illinois, to James and Helen (Reinhart) Monahan. He passed away on April 13, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, just two days shy of his 71st birthday. Mike was a proud graduate of Libertyville High School, class of 1972. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. His work ethic and dedication shone through in every chapter of his life — whether it was the 20 years he spent with Target Department Stores, his time at the Guthrie News Leader, or the countless baseball games he umpired over two decades. A man of faith and quiet strength, Mike was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Guthrie. He gave generously of his time and heart, serving as an active member of the Knights of Columbus, volunteering with the Logan County Council on Aging, and serving on the board of directors at God’s Food Bank. Mike’s life was marked by service, kindness, and connection. He never met a stranger, and his calm, steady presence was a comfort to many. He is survived by his beloved four-legged companion, Cooper; his brother Tom Monahan; his brother James Monahan and wife Jodi; his nephew Kevin Monahan and wife Jennifer, along with their children Madelyn, Traci, and son JJ Feltz. He is also survived by his cousin Linda Paulson and her husband Marty, and their children Matt, Kevin, and Kaitlin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 12:00 - 7:00 PM at Hayes Funeral Home (117 E. Noble Ave., Guthrie, OK 73044). Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church (411 N. Elm St., Guthrie, OK 73044) with Rev. James Wickersham officiating.
