“We’ve had to make adjustments for the future, such as adding digital websites and online services to stay competitive. But one thing hasn’t changed — newspapers remain the most factual and accurate source of information available.”

The printed newspaper continues to hold a special place in the hearts of readers, serving as a vital link between a community and the stories that shape it.

“For me, that connection is something I’m proud to have been part of my entire career,” Stidham said. “We couldn’t do it without our loyal subscribers and advertisers — your continued support keeps local journalism alive.”

Stidham also expressed heartfelt appreciation for the many dedicated staff members, past and present, along with freelancers who have contributed to the paper’s success over the years.

During National Newspaper Week (Oct. 5–11, 2025), the Guthrie News Leader joins newspapers across the country in celebrating the vital role community journalism continues to play — informing, connecting, and strengthening the places we call home. This year’s theme, “Embracing Local Journalism for a Better Future,” reminds us that in supporting local news, we invest in informed, engaged, and resilient communities.
