Learn About the “Myth of the Steal” in Presentation at Overholser Mansion on June 26

GUTHRIE, Okla. — On Thursday, June 26, from 6-8 p.m., join staff from the Henry and Anna Overholser Mansion and the Oklahoma Territorial Museum for a free presentation titled “The Myth of the Steal: Oklahoma’s Capitol.” Staff from both sites will discuss the move of Oklahoma’s State Capitol and the myth surrounding the state seal’s theft.

 Shelley Bierschank, museum director at the Overholser Mansion, will discuss Henry Overholser and his advocacy for the Capitol move, lobbying and its impact on Oklahoma City. Staff from the Oklahoma Territorial Museum will present on Gov. Charles Haskell, how the move happened and its impact on the city of Guthrie.

The event will take place in the Carriage House of the Overholser Mansion. No registration is required.

 The Henry and Anna Overholser Mansion is located at 405 NW 15th St. in Oklahoma City’s historic Heritage Hills neighborhood.

 The Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library is a division of the Oklahoma Historical Society. The Henry and Anna Overholsr Mansion is an affiliate of the Oklahoma Historical Society.
