The GHS boys’ tennis team returned to the OKC Tennis Center Monday for the Duncan West Tournament, picking up a T-9th-place finish.
Guthrie took fourth in the No. 1 Doubles bracket and fifth in the No. 2 Doubles but couldn’t find the same success in either of the Singles tournaments. Jaxson Mayer and Carson Olmsted won their first and second-round matches of the 1 Doubles before falling to Edmond Santa Fe in the semifinals, pitting the duo against host-school Duncan for the third-place match, which they lost 4,3.
Isaiah Dearman and Broderric Hansen defeated duos from Lawton, Piedmont and Ada to finish fifth in the No. 1 Doubles. They suffered a second-round loss to eventual winners Crossings Christian, 2,1, which sent them to the fifth-place bracket.
Jack Arballo and Ryan Mostrom competed for Guthrie in the No. 1 Singles and No. 2 Singles, respectively. Arballo came in 14th after falling in the first round and in the consolation, but picking up one consolation victory over Lawton Ike’s Jeremiah Scott. Mostrom lost three matches during the 2 Singles tourney to finish in 15th.
The Jays ended with 30 total points by the end of the tournament, tying Putnam City for the ninth spot. The tournament championship went to Crossings Christian, who won first place with 62 points.
Coach Mary Hudson’s group heads to Stillwater next to take on the Pioneers on Saturday, March 29, in a joint event with the Guthrie girls’ team.
