Where Guthrie, Cashion baseball teams stand at Spring Break

The Logan County high school baseball squads rattled off a handful of games to start the 2024-25 season before taking off for Spring Break.

Coach Terry Bennett’s Guthrie Bluejays enter the break with a perfect 7-0 record (4-0 in district play) out of the gate, fresh off of two double-header victories over Del City and a home win over Perkins-Tryon. The Bluejays walloped Del City, 19-0, in game one of the March 11 series, then took care of the Eagles in game two, 6-1.

Guthrie returned home on March 13 for a battle with Class 4A Perkins-Tryon, who they defeated 6-1 after scoring four runs in the opening inning. Bluejays’ pitcher Owen Wilder allowed just three hits in the victory.

Guthrie’s scheduled game versus Heritage Hall on March 14 was cancelled due to wildfire threats. They’ll return from their break on Thursday, March 27, when they go on the road to face Perry.

The Cashion Wildcats are also sitting happy with an undefeated record to start the year. Due to a slew of cancellations in their early-season games, coach Blake Mounce’s squad is currently 2-0 with wins over Crescent and Crossings Christian.

The Wildcats won comfortably over Crescent in their season opener, 8-0, then had their next two home games against Minco on March 10 and Hammon on March 14 cancelled due to weather. They played their road opener against Crossings Christian on March 13, picking up 10 hits and forcing three errors en route to a 13-1 win over the Knights.

Cashion is the No. 5-ranked team in the OSSAA Class 2A standings. Their Spring Break ends early as they travel to Tonkawa to play in the Tonkawa Spring Break Tournament, March 20-22.
