OCS pins Cashion in 3A clash

Oklahoma Christian School and Cashion boys’ wrestling met on the mat Tuesday for a Class 3A head-to-head dual between two squads looking to break dual losing streaks.

After the two schools saw each other at last week’s Western Conference Tournament, it was OCS that came out on top on their home floor in this one, 53-27, thanks to three fall victories and six forfeited matches for the Saints. No. 2-ranked Dax Lopez pinned Cashion’s Reese Ratcliff in the 144-pound match, as well as Braden Lillie over Oliver Downing in the 126 and Luke Adcock over Easton Smith in the 132.

OCS was granted 36 team points as a result of forfeited matches, more than half their final total. Cashion was the beneficiary of two forfeits, meaning eight out of 14 total matches Tuesday were bypassed.

The 190-pound match ended in the dual’s only non-fall or forfeit finish when Cashion’s Jacob Reese narrowly bested OCS’ Garret Monter by 5-4 decision. The Wildcats secured two fall victories on the night thanks to Carlos Martinez, who pinned Henry Soper in the 165, and Matthew Stockton, who capped the dual by pinning Hank Green in the heavyweight match.

Stockton is ranked No. 7 in Class 3A for the heavyweight class.

Coach Colby Robinson and the ninth-ranked OCS Saints pick up their first win since beating Class 5A Southeast High School back on Dec. 3. They’re now 3-2 in duals this season.

Cashion falls to 2-7 in their dual slate.
