Logan Co. NAACP to hold annual MLK parade

The Logan County NAACP is set to host a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration with the annual MLK Parade in downtown Guthrie.

Starting at the Scottish Rite Temple and heading west on Oklahoma Street to City Hall, the parade has become a yearly tradition with the goal of “honoring the life and legacy” of a historic American figure. This year’s parade theme is “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365.”

The parade welcomes all participants who have an approved MLK Parade entry form, which is to be completed online and returned to a committee member no later than Jan. 15. Participants can also register a car, van, float or band to take part in the walk. Entries can be submitted by email to fbcguthrie@sbcglobal.net.

There will be a balloon release at the end of the parade route. Participants are asked to bring helium-filled balloons only.

The parade will take place on Monday, Jan. 20, at 10 A.M. For any questions regarding the event, contact branch chairman Rick Smith (405-341-2725) or any other committee members listed on the entry form.
