Former Payne and Logan counties First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Etherington was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison after being convicted on child pornography charges in Payne County District Court.
A Payne County judge ordered Etherington, 56, to serve the sentence consecutively in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
Earlier this year, a Payne County jury found Etherington guilty of one count of aggravated possession of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography following an investigation conducted by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.
According to investigators, the case began in September 2022 when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children forwarded multiple cyber tips involving suspected child sexual abuse material to OSBI agents.
During the investigation, agents identified Etherington as a suspect while he was serving as the first assistant district attorney for Payne and Logan counties.
OSBI agents executed a search warrant at Etherington’s Stillwater residence on Nov. 28, 2022. Authorities said evidence collected during the search led to his arrest on complaints of aggravated possession of child pornography and violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.
The OSBI also credited the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office for assisting.
