Guthrie High School JROTC hosted its fifth annual 5K Saturday, April 18. The event is organized and run by cadets in the ‘89er Battalion. This year’s race drew 190 runners including members of 15 JROTC teams from across the region.
Competing schools included Guthrie, Edmond North, Northwest Classen, Classen SAS, Lawton MacArthur and Carl Albert High Schools, adding to a competitive field that continues to grow each year.
In the team competition, Edmond North JROTC claimed the overall team title.
Guthrie native Isaiah Blevins finished as the fastest overall runner, crossing the line in 19:32 with a 6:17-per-mile pace. Blevins also won the male 1–18 division.
Individual division winners included: Female 1–18: Melissavette Alba (1st), Taylor Schroder (2nd), Karina Ochoa (3rd) Female 19–35: Joy Rogers (1st), Paige Medlin (2nd), Kayle Allen (3rd) Female 36–49: Reba Morton (1st), Karly Edwards (2nd), Kim Meyer (3rd) Female 50 & up: Lisa Reece (1st), Sara Jensen (2nd), Dawn Jennings (3rd) Male 1–18: Isaiah Blevins (1st), Aiden Foster (2nd), Jacob Buck (3rd) Male 19–35: Luke Johnson (1st), Boston Wybrant (2nd), Heath Sullins (3rd) Male 36–49: Matthew England (1st), Jonathan Rollins (2nd), Travis Crook (3rd) Male 50 & up: Jerry Caughman (1st), Roy Buchanan (2nd), Ben Cherry (3rd) The event, hosted by Guthrie High School JROTC cadets of the 89er Battalion, continues to serve as both a community race and a leadership opportunity for students.
