Stephanie Bice visited Guthrie Feb. 17, to present a $1,407,000 check supporting upgrades to the city’s 911 dispatch center and rehabilitation and modernization of Logan County’s public safety radio system.
Guthrie Police Chief Don Sweger praised the congresswoman’s efforts, saying the investment will directly impact public safety for both residents and the thousands of travelers who pass through the county each day.
“We cannot stress enough how much her leadership has benefited this community,” the chief said. “These upgrades to the dispatch center and the radio system are critical. That first line of response is what keeps our officers, firefighters and citizens safe.”
The funding, secured through federal community project funding, will help modernize equipment at the 911 center and improve radio communications for law enforcement and first responders throughout Logan County.
Bice said advocating for projects like the 911 center was a priority when she took office in 2020.
“When I got elected to Congress, my goal was to represent the constituents of the 5th District in the best way I can,” Bice said. “Whether it’s a water treatment facility, an airport improvement project or the 911 center, these are the things our communities need.”
She noted that local governments are often limited in funding options, relying heavily on sales tax revenue to complete major infrastructure improvements.
“It was an honor and a privilege to be able to put this forward and advocate for you all to get this across the finish line,” she said. “My goal moving forward is to continue to ask what I can do to help communities like Guthrie.”
