GUTHRIE — A Guthrie man has been arrested and charged following a shooting Tuesday afternoon that left one woman injured and prompted a high-speed pursuit, temporary road closures, and heightened security measures at a local school.
In a statement, the Guthrie Police Department said the suspect has been identified as Michael Brendaniel Adeniran, 25, of Guthrie, and is being charged with shooting with intent to kill, stalking, and felony eluding.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., Guthrie police officers responded to the area of Oklahoma Avenue and Broad Street following a report of shots fired. Officers later determined the shooting occurred approximately one block north of that location.
According to Guthrie Police Department, Adeniran produced a firearm and began shooting at the victim’s vehicle. The victim attempted to flee the area, but Adeniran pursued her on foot, continuing to fire at the vehicle.
Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said the victim was able to drive herself to safety. Officers later located her in an alleyway in the 400 block of East Noble Avenue, where she received medical attention at the scene before being transported to a metro-area hospital. Police said the victim is now listed in stable condition and is expected to recover.
Witnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots. One witness told the Guthrie News Leader there were “too many shots to count,” adding they initially did not realize what was happening but immediately followed safety protocols to protect employees and customers once the situation became clear.
During the incident, officers located Adeniran’s vehicle and a high-speed pursuit ensued. The pursuit traveled east on State Highway 33 and south on Interstate 35, with reported speeds reaching approximately 100 mph. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol joined the pursuit after the suspect entered the Edmond city limits.
The pursuit ended near Interstate 35 and the Kilpatrick Turnpike, where Adeniran was taken into custody without further incident.
As a precaution, Central Elementary School was placed under a Secure Security Status, requiring students to remain inside with exterior doors locked. School officials confirmed all students and staff were accounted for. The secure status was lifted, and an all-clear was issued at 2:45 p.m. Extra officers from the Guthrie Police Department and Logan County Sheriff’s Office remained on site until students were released to parents or buses.
Portions of Oklahoma Avenue between Broad Street and Ash Street were temporarily closed during the investigation but reopened at 4:41 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation by the Guthrie Police Department. Booking photos, potential additional charges, and additional updates are expected to be released as they become available.
The Guthrie Police Department thanked the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for their assistance.
