OSBI Confirms Identity in Southern Logan County Homicide Investigation

Jan. 29, 2026

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has confirmed the identity of the woman found yesterday deceased in a trash container outside an Edmond home in Logan County.

OSBI spokesperson Hunter McKee told the Guthrie News Leader on Wednesday that 49 year old Spring Weems was found dead outside her home on Jan. 28. McKee stated Weems had injuries consistent with a homicide, but the agency is awaiting the official medical examiner report for confirmation.

McKee also confirmed a teenage suspect, her adopted son, was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint and has been transferred to a juvenile detention facility in Canadian County. No formal charges have been filed at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.

The other juvenile involved in the incident is safe and authorities are working to place that individual in a secure home.

The OSBI stated the incident was isolated and there is no concern for public safety.

The Guthrie News Leader previously reported that Logan County sheriff deputies responded around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, to a report of two juveniles fighting in the 9000 block of Treviso Trail in the Cascata Falls neighborhood. Deputies separated the juveniles upon arrival and detained both individuals.

Investigators report that one juvenile told deputies the other claimed he had killed his mother and placed her body in a trash container. Deputies then checked the residence and found a deceased woman inside a large plastic garbage can.
