Mary Elizabeth Stone, age 96, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026. She was born on August 13, 1929, in Navina, Oklahoma, to James and Emily (Stadler) Griffin.
Mary spent her entire life in Logan County. On November 29, 1947, she married the love of her life, Melvin Stone, in Navina, Oklahoma. Together they shared 73 beautiful years of marriage, building a life full of faith, hard work, laughter, and devotion, until Melvin’s passing in 2021.
Six children were born to this union: Marvin, Linda, Kenneth, Wanda, Myra, and Donna. Mary’s greatest joy in life was caring for her family. A true homemaker at heart, she was known for her enormous garden and her tireless hands. She was always hoeing weeds, picking vegetables, and canning the vegetables. She lovingly cared for her chickens so her family could enjoy fresh eggs and her famous Sunday fried chicken dinners. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, warmth, and love.
Mary lived her life in service to others. She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she faithfully volunteered, especially when it came to cooking and baking for special church gatherings. If there was a need, Mary was there, quietly, humbly, and with a servant’s heart.
Mary is survived by her children: Marvin Stone and wife Elaine, Kenneth Stone and wife Sue, Wanda Calvert, Myra Richardson, and Donna Miller and husband Billy. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren, and one great-greatgrandchild, each of whom carries a piece of her love forward.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Emily Griffin; her beloved husband, Melvin Stone; her daughter, Linda Nelson; sons-in-law David Nelson, Rodney Richardson, and Mike Calvert; and her grandson, Austin Richardson.
