Karen Gale Rumsey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away on January 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born June 20, 1957, to Ralph Ellison and Jeanne Ellison (née Cote), Karen lived a life defined by faith, generosity, creativity, and joy.
Karen was a lifelong resident of Southern California, where she built deep roots and lasting friendships, before moving to Guthrie, Oklahoma in 2008. Wherever she lived, Karen’s warmth and kindness made everyone feel welcome. She loved the Lord deeply and lived out her faith through active involvement in church, a servant’s heart, and unwavering compassion for others.
Karen had a rare gift for making people feel truly seen and loved. She was known for her infectious laugh, ever-present smile, and generous spirit. An incredibly talented quilter, she poured her heart into sewing and crafting, leaving behind beautiful handmade treasures that will be cherished for generations—each stitch a reflection of her love.
She is survived by her devoted husband, John C. Rumsey III; her children, John C. Rumsey, IV (Janeena), Jeanne Ambriz (Paul), and Daniel Rumsey (Rebeca); and her adored grandchildren, Aiden, Hazel, Gage, Harriet, Casen, Juniper, and Hank.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Our Savior Lutheran Church located at 735 South Santa Fe in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 North 1st Street, Guthrie, Oklahoma 73044.
While battling cancer, Karen clung to Romans 12:12 - “Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer.” Her legacy of faith, love, and joy will live on in all who knew her.
