The holiday season in Guthrie wouldn’t be complete without the annual Kiwanis Christmas Auction, a community tradition that brings joy, generosity and spirited bidding to support local children.
This year’s event will take place Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Presbyterian Fellowship Hall, 102 E. Noble Ave.
Can’t make it in person? You can still follow the excitement from home by watching via livestream on YouTube. com/GuthrieNewsPage, Facebook.com/ GuthrieNewsPage, or Facebook.com/ CityofGuthrie. Viewers can watch items being showcased, but all bids must be placed by phone.
Anyone is invited to donate new items and antiques on Dec. 3-5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Fellowship Hall’s north rear entrance.
Featured auction items include:
• A Main Event family fun pack valued at $300
• A fan pack and four tickets to an OKC Comets baseball game
• Passes to Chicken and Pickle
• High-tech Oakley Meta Transition Glasses, valued at $489 Plus, toys, gift cards, home décor, and unique gift items will be up for bidding.
Volunteers from the Key Club and Builders Club help make the event possible. If you stop by in person, enjoy a slice of pizza for $2 and sodas for $1. Pizza Hut and Golden Chick are feeding the volunteers.
The goal this year is to raise $22,000 to continue serving children in Guthrie, Coyle and surrounding communities. If the financial goal is met, the auction proceeds can fund three $1,000 scholarships to graduating Guthrie High students, the Coats for Kids program, and emergency relief for families affected by disasters.
The Guthrie Kiwanis Club, established in 1971, embodies the Kiwanis mission of improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Jamie Newton wanted to give a special thanks to the City of Guthrie for all of its support.
Those interested in joining the club can visit the Guthrie Kiwanis Facebook page or call Newton at 405-642-2751.
In the past two months, the Kiwanis Club has helped over 200 children in the community with cold-weather gear, as well as other clothing, shoes and hygiene items. The cost was almost $12,000.
Mark your calendar, come to the Fellowship Hall, or tune in and bid big, because every dollar helps a child’s future.
