A Servant Leader Honored: Dowding Receives Gumerson Lifetime Achievement Award

LaVerne Dowding was recognized for a lifetime of service during the annual banquet of the Guthrie Chamber of Commerce, held Feb. 5, 2026, where he received the Jon Gumerson Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the community’s highest honors.

Stephanie Bice visited Guthrie Feb. 17, to present a $1,407,000 check supporting upgrades to the city’s 911 dispatch center and rehabilitation and modernization of Logan County’s public safety radio system.

Crescent Speech Squad Posts Strong Showing at Annual Tournament

The Crescent Speech Squad competed Feb. 6-7 at the annual speech tournament in Rush Springs, earning multiple regional qualifications and top finishes.In the qualifying division, McKayla Henning and Serenity Holub placed first in Public Forum Debate.

Guthrie Rotary Student of the Week

The Guthrie Rotary Club’s Students of the Week are Ilamae Smith and Luke Lyons. Ilamae is the daughter of Denise Smith. She is active in Bluejay wrestling and Student Council. She was the wrestling Homecoming Queen. She enjoys doing community service.
