Crescent Announces New Police Chief

The City of Crescent is excited to announce the hire of Jim Bauman as the Crescent Police Department Chief. Jim Bauman has a decades long career in law enforcement and is well known for his two terms of elected service as Logan County Sheriff.

On December 19th, the Guthrie Chamber held an official Ribbon Cutting for their Pearl Chamber Investor, The Greens Launch Pub. This new business is in historic downtown Guthrie at 118 S. 2nd Street.

APRIL

The slow pitch softball season came to an end in regional action for Guthrie (10-13), as they were eliminated by Jenks in Class 6A action, 12-2 and 8-2. The Crescent Lady Tigers (22-7) saw their solid season end abruptly with a 12-3 loss to Stroud in the regional tournament.

MARCH

Guthrie’s wrestling team closed out a tough year with a fifth-place finish at the Class 5A State Championships. The Bluejays brought home four individual championships as Eli Kirk, Khaleah Kirk, Kaedin Herendeen and Braden Hall all went 3-0 in Oklahoma City.

MAY

What a way to close out the school year. It started with Crescent and Cashion both qualifying athletes to the Class 2A State Track Championships. Kinidi Taylor won her second consecutive long jump title with an effort of 18 feet, 3.

SEPTEMBER

Guthrie senior Rylin Wells was named the 2023 Guthrie Homecoming Queen for football in a game against Tuttle. In one of the largest cross country meets, Guthrie hosted the inaugural Clay Tarter Invitational held in Cottonwood Flats in honor of the late cross country and track coach.

AUGUST

The Oklahoma State Secondary Activities Association (OSSAA) announced basketball districts for Class 5A and 6A for the 2023-24 and 24-25 seasons as a test for the state playoff system similar to what was used in football.

Four Nights In Bangkok

Bangkok didn’t necessarily start on the right foot with me. I mentioned the ubiquitous traffic of Southeast Asia in my dispatch from the Philippines, and my time in Thailand only reinforced the notion that the traffic congestion there is the world’s worst.

OCTOBER

The Lady Bluejays softball team finished second in the Class 5A state softball tournament, losing to nemesis Piedmont 3-2 in the final on a walk-off hit, after beating Tahlequah 8-7 and Coweta 6-5 to advance. The Lady Bluejays finished at 28-8, the best record by a Guthrie softball team.
