Guthrie’s City Council on Tuesday approved the acceptance of grant funds and the execution of the grant agreement from the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department for the Land and Water Conservation Fund in the amount of $1 million for the Owen Fields Softball Complex Phase 1A.

This grant is a 50/50 match through the OTRD.

The City of Guthrie has been awarded $1 million for a total project cost of $2,004,039. The project involves the construction of three new softball/ baseball fields that will provide for a total of six fields. The project also will create a new concession building and a new paved parking area, both ADA compliant.

City Manager Leroy Alsup said the City completed its project cultural resource study this week, and was sent out for review by various entities, including the Osage Nation for approval.

“We should get something back from them with no adverse findings,” he said.

In other matters, the City Council approved funding from the United States Department of Agriculture to fund the purchase of an equipment hauler for the Guthrie Street Department.

The City of Guthrie has been awarded a $34,600 USDA Rural Development “Community Facilities Grant Agreement” for the purchase of a Landoll 855-53 Equipment Haul/ Trailer in the amount of $117,064. Alsup said the city’s match of $82,464 will come from the FEMA reimbursement from the 2020 ice storm.

He said prices for equipment/ haul trailers are on the rise.

“Costs are going up and it is hard to keep up,” Alsup said.
