The Oklahoma Highway Patrol released an accident report for the fatality accident on Jan. 19 in Logan County. The accident claimed the life of Barbara Heflin, 78, of Crescent. Heflin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Examiner. The funeral for Heflin was Jan. 29
The accident was reported at approximately 10:30 a.m. and closed Highway 33 for almost six hours that day. The accident occurred on Highway 33 and Pennsylvania Avenue approximately five miles west of Guthrie
The driver of the other vehicle was Mark Gellenbeck, 32, of Guthrie. He was driving a 2020 Ford F-250 truck and went left of center into Heflin’s vehicle. The OHP report indicates that Gellenbeck told investigators he was reaching for something in the passenger seat at the time of the accident. Gellenbeck refused treatment at the scene.
The OUP report cites the cause of the collision as inattention and that the condition of the driver was still under investigation. The report also indicates seat belts were in use on both vehicles and airbags deployed in both vehicles.
The OHP Traffic Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.
