The Samuel King Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) along with the Oklahoma Territorial Museum will be hosting a beautiful event to honor our veteran loved ones: “Flames of Memory,” will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 10th, on the steps of the Carnegie Library, here in Guthrie, and everyone is welcome to attend.
Keynote Speaker, Rear Admiral Gregory Slavonic USN (Ret.), is the Former Acting Under Secretary of the Navy and the 18th Assistant Secretary of the Navy. He holds two Bronze Stars, a Legion of Merit Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation, a Combat Action Ribbon, and many other service and campaign medals. Other speakers and presentations will include Nathan Turner, Director of the Oklahoma Territorial Museum, the American Legion, Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, the VFW, and the City Council. The SAR Color Guard will be presenting, and there will be performances by Andrew Twesme on bagpipes and a high school rendition of “Taps” on the trumpet.
Starting November 1st, those who would like to attend and honor the veterans in their lives should stop by the Oklahoma Territorial Museum at 406 East Oklahoma Avenue in Guthrie to write names on luminarie bags.
