The Logan County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday accepted an application of Thomas L. and Janet S. Hudson for the establishment of a private family cemetery on their county property.

County Clerk Troy Cole told Commissioners that in order to approve a private cemetery, state statute requires submitting an application, having an appointed examiner/investigator for the application, a publication notice, and holding a public hearing.

“The Hudsons have submitted an application to establish a private family cemetery on their property west of Guthrie,” Cole said. “They are responsible for paying all costs to make this happen. If everything is up to snuff on that, then you guys (Commissioners) can approve the formation of the cemetery.”

The Commissioners appointed Cole to serve as examiner of the cemetery application.

District 1 Commissioner Marven Goodman said he previously talked to Thomas Hudson about his family’s request.

“I have no problem with what their family wants to do,” he said. “I support it.”

In other matters, the Commissioners approved a resolution establishing a two-way stop at the intersection of County Road 74 and May Avenue.

“I have some people that don’t want to slow down through that intersection, so we decided to make it a two-way stop,” District 3 Commissioner Monty Piearcy said.

The Commissioners also approved a Fiscal Year 2022-2023 Inspection Service Agreement with Summit Fire and Security, in the amount of $370, for the kitchen suppression system at the Logan County Jail; and a contract with the Mulhall-Orlando School District for a School Resource Officer for the period of July 1, 2022 to May 12, 2023.

“This just continues a partnership with Mulhall schools providing an SRO officer at both of those (school) locations,” Sheriff Damon Devereaux said. “It is a viable and great partnership.”
