10:00 AM - LANGSTON VETERANS DAY RECEPTION AND OBSERVANCE Wm Conrad Veterans Memorial Gardens at 313 Turner Street in Langston (bad weather alternate venue is New Hope Missionary Baptist Church) Pastries and coffee reception at 10:00, followed by The Official Veterans Day Observance at 11:00 a.m. LTC Casey W. Campbell, Commander of the 486th Civil Affairs Battalion in Tulsa will be the Keynote Speaker. Veterans Appreciation Art Contest student winners will be announced.
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM DOWNTOWN GUTHRIE VETERANS DAY PARADE Begins at the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and ends at Honor Park in Downtown Guthrie This traditional Guthrie parade honors veterans and those who serve our country in the armed forces. Sponsored by the American Legion LeBron Post #58 11:30 AM - GUTHRIE AMERICAN LEGION VETERANS REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY Honor Park in Guthrie, then move to the American Legion Building Ceremony following the Parade to take place at Honor Park, followed by celebration in the American Legion building. Donuts for veterans and their families provided by ESA.
1:00 PM - GUTHRIE VETERANS LUNCH American Legion building at 123 North 1st Street in Guthrie Lunch for veterans and their families will be provided by Daughters of the American Revolution.
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM - BLUEGRASS CONCERT AT THE GUTHRIE DEPOT Guthrie Depot at 409 West Oklahoma Avenue in Guthrie One-Eyed Jack (formerly The Byron Berline Band) will play bluegrass music, and Pollard’s Gourmet Grocery & Railyard Pie Company will provide food. Be sure to register for the American Legion’s Thanksgiving Day First Annual Turkey Trot to support Logan County veterans and disabled veterans: Thursday, November 24th - 1ST ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DAY TURKEY TROT Starts at the corner of 1st Street and Harrison Street in Guthrie This 5K race to benefit Logan County veterans and disabled veterans will be the start of a new tradition in Guthrie. Prizes will be awarded for: Oldest Runner, Youngest Runner, Largest Family, and Funniest Costume. All runners will be provided with hot chocolate.
Registration is $35 for adults (includes t-shirt), or $25 for adults (without t-shirt), and $5 for students.
Contact American Legion LeBron Post #58: 405-2822589 The post office will not be delivering mail, as most federal offices are closed for the day. The City of Guthrie offices will be closed as well the Logan County offices and courthouse.
All the banks in town have signs posted that they will not be open on Friday. There will be a parade Friday morning followed by ceremonies at Honor Park. The City of Langston is also holding Veterans Day ceremonies in town.
School will be in session in Guthrie Friday, but the band will march in the parade and there is a Veterans Day program at the school after the parade.
