The season came to an end last Friday night for the Coyle Lady Bluejackets, as they fell in the Regional Consolation Semifinal game to No. 10 Seiling, 40-18.
The Lady Wildcats put all of their attention on stopping Coyle’s leading scorer, Aubrey Taylor. From the second Taylor stepped on the floor, Seiling put a box-and-one on Taylor, face guarding her baseline to baseline. The strategy paid off for Seiling, as Taylor struggled to get the ball in her hands, and once she finally was able to get the ball, shot attempts were few and far between.
With the main source of Coyle’s points being limited, Seiling was able to build an 18-6 lead at halftime. The Lady Bluejackets would only score 18 points in the entire game.
Seiling took control of the game in the second half, outscoring Coyle 22-12.
Sierra Young led Coyle with eight points. Taylor finished with six points, all of which came from the free throw line.
With the loss, the Bluejackets finished the year with a record of 12-14, an improvement off their 7-17 campaign last season.
“We came so far this year,” Coyle Head Coach Tom Webb said. “They came so far from the beginning of the year. We won more games this year than we did last year. The girls learned a whole lot and we have a really good group coming back along with a solid eighth-grade bunch that should help us out a lot too. I’m proud of the way they fought this year.”
