Former Coyle High School star and current SWOSU standout Tyra Aska earned Great American Conference Player of the Week honors this week the league office announced Monday.
This is the fourth time in Aska’s career she has earned GAC Player of the Week and the first time this season. Aska played a pivotal role in the Lady Bulldogs success last week, as she averaged a doubledouble and helped lead SWOSU to a pair of conference wins on the road. The two wins pushed the Lady Bulldogs win streak to five games and moved them into a tie for second place in the league standings.
Aska pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds to go along with 12 points against Henderson State Thursday, helping her become the sixth player in program history to score 1,500 career points.
On Saturday against Ouachita, Aska poured in a season-high 27 points to move her past Jackie Snodgrass and into fifth place on the Lady Bulldogs all-time scoring list with 1,530 career points.
When the week came to a close, Aska averaged 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, all while shooting 50 percent form the field and three-point range.
Aska has become one of the Lady Bulldogs best overall players this season. Her 11.5 points per game and 77 steals on the year is second-best on the team. She ranks third on the team with seven rebounds per game and in steals with 57 on the year.
Earning GAC Player of the Week honors has become a yearly tradition for Aska, as she has earned the weekly honor once in each of her four seasons at SWOSU.
