The Guthrie Bluejays varsity baseball team wrapped up another week and now heads into Spring Break with a 6-0 record, thanks to the consistently stellar play of Luke Hubbard both on the mound and at the plate.

Guthrie Jr High competed well today at Carl Albert Tournament! Haven Hudson placed 4th at 1 singles, Lola Brown placed 2nd at 2 singles, Teagan Duehning and Lania Woodard placed 6th at 1 doubles and Kinley Nelson and Taylor Shipley placed 4th at 2 doubles. Drake Shelton placed 7th at 1 singles, Ryan Mostram placed 8th at 2 singles, Trenton Edberg and Caden Shipley placed 7th at 1 doubles and Nash Huskey and Brennon Williams placed 8th at 2 doubles!

Luke Hubbard was the undisputed player of the night Monday night, as the Bluejays took down the Shawnee Wolves 8-0 at Squires Field Monday night. Hubbard was a beast at the plate, going 2-for-3 at the plate and driving in five of Guthrie’s eight runs.

Langston University is hosting the 2024 NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship Tournament First and Second Rounds at the C.F. Gayles Field House March 15-16, 2024. The Lions earned the #1 seed in the Duer Quadrant after winning the Sooner Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships for the second straight year. The Lions will take on the #16 seed Bellevue (Neb.) in the first round Friday, March 15, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. That game will be followed by the #8 seed Southwestern (Kan.) versus the #9 seed Ave Maria (Fla.) at 8:00 p.m. The winners of those two games will play each other in the second round Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.

The weather matched the spirit of the day, as the Guthrie’s varsity baseballers opened their season with a home doubleheader against the Western Heights Jets Monday. Jace Rainwater set the tone as the Guthrie leadoff batter of the season, ripping a standing double into left off a 1-2 fastball from Western Heights starter Jacob Bohnstedt. Rainwater had not even caught his breath at second base before his double turned into the Jays’ first run when the Jets promptly threw the ball into the dugout while getting it back into the infield. This first play turned out to be a metaphor for the entire night.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma’s major grant program, Blue Impact, is now accepting applications through May 1, 2024. The Blue Impact grant program is part of a refreshed community investment strategy focused on the social determinants of health.
