This afternoon, the Oklahoma State Board of Education ordered all public schools to be closed until at least April 6th in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This closure will include all extra-curricular contests and practices.
Beginning on March 23rd, sack lunches will be available for curbside pickup Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the parking lots of Central and Cotteral Elementary. These lunches will be made available for anyone between the ages of 1 and 18 at no charge. It is not required that they be a student of Guthrie Public Schools.
Quotes from Guthrie Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mike Simpson: “This action is unprecedented in my lifetime and speaks to the magnitude of what we have in front of us. I’m very proud of our staff as we had already begun to put a plan in place last week for providing meals to our students in anticipation of this announcement. Several community members have already reached out asking about how they could assist. Hopefully, families will have time to make arrangements for their children and begin to practice social distancing. This will be an essential change for many including myself.”
