Lenore Miles, age 98, of Guthrie, died Thursday, December 3, 2020. She was born on September 10, 1922 to the late Alfred and Muriel Killebrew in Lincoln, Kansas. Lenore graduated as valedictorian from Mulhall High School in 1939.
Her children and grandchildren were always a top priority. She also worked at various times for First State Bank, Powell’s, Guthrie Chamber of Commerce, Guthrie City Manager, Scrutchfield Motors, and Oklahoma Furniture Manufacturing Co.
When her children were grown, she took accounting classes at Central State College and became assistant to the Oklahoma State Treasurer and worked at the state capitol for several years. Lenore was a complex and creative person with a myriad of diverse interests. In her younger years, she was a barrel racer and competed in rodeos across Oklahoma (and was usually in the money). She was an excellent cook and made wonderful homemade meals, pies and candy. She volunteered for the Red Cross swimming program in the summer. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid knitter, and loved painting and calligraphy.
After retirement, she sold her work at arts and crafts shows statewide. She was a landscaper and gardener and loved to work in her yard and garden and continued to do so well into her 80’s. Lenore loved to spend time with her grandkids who called her “Mimi.” She organized fortbuilding, held potato-digging contests with trophies, and enthusiastically taught them whatever they wanted to learn about cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, painting, knitting, decorating, and crafting.
She is survived by her two children: Kenneth Walter and wife Kathy and Linda Dean and husband Marlin. Lenore is also survived by five grandchildren: Leasa (Tracy) Stewart, Kirk McCorkle, Kim (Terry) Hinkle, Kevin (Kandice) Walter, and Kristi (Kyle) Blakemore; and twelve great-grandchildren: Riley, Ashlea, Callen, Callie, Harper, Hadley, Katelyn, Brody, Hank, Braylon, Vivian and Kreed.
Preceding Lenore in death were her first husband LeRoy Walter in 1944, her second husband Herbert Miles in 2005 and her brothers Leonard and Bill Killebrew.
Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery, Mulhall, OK. Services were under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
