Coyle’s Aubrey Taylor entered Tuesday night needing one point to join the 1,000-point club. She ended the game with 19 points and helped lead the Lady Bluejackets to its fourth win this season over rival Mulhall-Orlando, 42-35.
Taylor is the fourth player to score over 1,000 points in a career for the Coyle Lady Bluejackets joining Shelby Jennings, Shilah Young, and Tyra Aska in the illustrious club. After Tuesday night Taylor now has 1,018 points, moving her into third all-time in Lady Bluejacket history behind Young (1,750 points) and Aska (1,950 points).
“Aubrey is the big story tonight,” Coyle Head Coach Tom Webb said after the win. “For her to go over 1,000 points for a career, it’s impressive. She’s only the fourth one to ever do that here and she still has a whole other year to add on to it.”
The junior point guard will return next season on a team that loses only one senior to graduation. Before anyone starts thinking about next season, the Lady Bluejackets are looking to keep this season going for another week as they will take on Geary High School next Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Hydro-Eakly. A win Thursday will advance the Lady Bluejackets to regionals.
