GHS Musicians earn Honor Band recognitions

Congratulations to the Guthrie High School Band for having 3 outstanding young musicians make both the NCDA All Region and OKMEA All State Honor Bands this year! This is quite an accomplishment for all young musicians to be able to claim that they are now All-State material and among the best in the State of Oklahoma!

World champion bulls will face off with world champion riders this weekend as the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) extreme bullriding event returns to Guthrie for two nights of high-adrenaline action. Riders will be competing for glory and $53,000 in the event that will benefit a good cause.

The Guthrie Rotary Student of the Week is Bella Benham._ She is the daughter of Craig and Laura Benham._ Bella has been active in dance for many years._ She is a Special Olympics Unified Partner, a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, FCCLA, Mu Alpha Theta, and will be a Valedictorian._Bella received the DAR Good Citizen Award and has all ready received two scholarships_ to attend OSU where she will major in Allied Health._ Pictured with Bella is Rotary President, Tyler Calvert.

Free Tax Services Available from AARP Foundation Tax-Aide

Taxpayers who would like to file their own Federal and State taxes for free will have a new option available this year. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide now has a Facilitated Self-Assistance (FSA) site at the Guthrie Public Library for taxpayers with adjusted gross income (AGI) less than $79,000. Appointments can now be made for 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Tuesdays from February 6 through April 9 by calling the library at 405-282-0050.

Coyle Porkchop Feed Saturday Night

The last FFA/4-H Pork Chop Feed and Auction of the year will be Saturday night February 3 at Coyle High School. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. The dinner will begin at 5 p.m. in the new gym on Bond Avenue. The live auction will start at 7 p.m. There are lots of auction items small and large including student made items that are in the auction. Tickets are still available at the school office. There is also carryout meals available. The money raised helps the students fund their trips to the district FFA shows, OYE, and the FFA State meeting among other events.
