Summer Child Nutrition Details Released

Guthrie Public Schools will be participating in the Summer Food Service Program.  Meals will be provided to the children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race,  color,  national origin,  sex,  age or disability,  and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.  Meals will be provided on  a first‐come first, serve basis, at the sites and times as follows:

Rainwater to resign

Body

Robbie Rainwater, the principal at the Guthrie Junior High School has submitted his resignation and an action item to hire a new principal is on the Guthrie Schools Board of Education agenda for Monday night. Rainwater has been with the school district for 15 years in various teaching and coaching capacities before becoming principal. The News Leader will have more information after the board meeting on Monday.

Summer Courses at Meridian Technology Delayed Until June 1; Some Training Programs Will Transition to Virtual Platforms

Meridian Technology Center has delayed on-campus short-course offerings until June 1 due to COVID-19 concerns.

“It is still too soon for Meridian to have guests on campus. Balancing safety and the delivery of services is our priority,” said Dr. Douglas Major, Superintendent/CEO of Meridian Technology Center.

Major indicated that Meridian would continue to assess the situation and decide about on-campus courses after June 1 in a format that will conform with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Charges filed against Cloud in Walmart shooting

The Logan County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against Arthur Cloud in the alleged shooting incident in the Walmart parking lot last week.

Arthur Cloud who made his initial court appearance on Wednesday is facing three felony charges: Shooting with Intent to Kill, Felon in Possession of Firearm and Reckless Conduct with Firearm. Bond was set at $500,000 and Cloud must surrender his passport.

City of Guthrie's COVID-19 ordinance expires

The Guthrie City Council met Tuesday night and after over an hour of discussion the ordinance that was controlling facemasks, water disconnections, public events, the over ten people ordinance, public meetings and opening of other buildings safely was allowed to expire on Tuesday night.

All of these items are now going to follow CDC and governor guidelines with city staff approval.
