What you need to know about the new Coronavirus

One case of the new Coronavirus was confirmed Friday afternoon in Tulsa County, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health. To date, the Oklahoma State Department of Health has submitted samples to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta until they develop their own test kits. While five have come back negative, one has come back positive.

Guthrie High School Principal Chris LeGrande Named Oklahoma High School Principal of the Year

Oklahoma City (March 5, 2020) – Chris LeGrande, Principal at Guthrie High School, has been named the 2020 Oklahoma High School Principal of the Year by the Oklahoma Association of Secondary School Principals (OASSP), a professional association of the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration (CCOSA).

“We are beyond excited for Mr. LeGrande to receive this honor,” said Dr. Mike Simpson, superintendent at Guthrie Public Schools. “He is an innovative leader, and his dedication to student achievement is evident every day he walks through the doors of our high school.”

Hopefully, we are on the backside of winter as the days begin to lengthen.  This flu season has been unique as many usual symptoms have been missing.  It has taken a toll on many families in our district including my own.  Obviously, the Coronavirus has received a large amount of media attention.  Our school nurse, April Devereaux, monitors the directives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  The operations and custodial staff have been following our normal protocols for disinfecting our buildings.  The Coronavirus is spread in a very similar fashion to the

City of Guthrie Announces New Accountant /Special Projects Officer

The City of Guthrie is excited to announce and welcome Maria Young as the new Accountant/Special Projects Officer. Maria will join the City of Guthrie leadership team on Monday, March 9, 2020. Maria has 9 years of accounting experience including 3 years as an Accounting Manager at Mar-K Specialized Manufacturing. Maria also holds a Master of Science Degree in Accountancy.

Silver Lining

The Guthrie Bluejays wrestling team went to the Class 5A state wrestling championships this past weekend with five qualifiers and one qualifier in the girl’s bracket. Guthrie came home with three second-place finishers and a fifth-place finisher and a tie for ninth place in the team standings with 35 points. Collinsville and Skiatook ran away from the rest of the field with 156 and 129 points respectively to claim the top two spots.
