Ball wins Teacher of the Year

The 2020 Teachers of the Year were announced Monday night at the Guthrie Public Schools Board of Education meeting. Melanie Ball won District Teacher of the Year after winning Elementary Teacher of the Year. Doug Ogle, Assistant Superintendent, presented the Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year awards to Melanie Ball and Tyler Young. Ball is a fourth grade teacher at Cotteral Elementary and Young is a computer applications teacher at Guthrie High School.

After helping lead the Ripley Warriors to a state championship in 2002 as an assistant coach, Josh Sumrall became the head coach for the Coyle Bluejackets the following season. He still remembers his first home game of his head coaching career.

Jewish Center to host New Year of the Tree Festivities

Deuteronomy 20:19 says “man is as a tree of the field,” and we are grateful for what we can learn from trees and for how they sustain our lives. The Jewish calendar includes a New Year of the Tree, whose festivities include special food and drink from various kinds of trees, at the full moon in the middle of winter when the sap starts to rise, about six weeks before spring.
