#2 Lady Tigers—49

Cashion—40

After starting the season 5-5, Crescent Head Coach Karl Butt said he didn’t care about how his team had started the season. He was only concerned with how they played down the stretch when it was close to the postseason. Since starting the year 5-5, the Crescent Lady Tigers have hit their stride, surging at the exact right time.

Over their last 12 games, the Lady Tigers have won nine of those, including four in a row. In that span, they have avenged losses to No. 4 Okarche and Morrison, and on Monday night beat crosstown rival No. 14 Cashion.

Tied at 19 coming out of halftime, Butt wanted his team to be more patient on the offensive end. The Tigers settled down and settled in, outscoring the Wildcats 16-4 in the third quarter to turn the game in their favor.

“The difference for us was we just took our time a little bit,” Butt said. “In the first half we were forcing everything and Cashion did a really good job of pressing us. We hadn’t seen man-to-man defense in a couple of months and we were trying to adjust to that. In the third, we kind of just slowed down and were able to go on a run and build a lead. After that, we were able to kind of settle in and relax a little bit and close it out.”

The Lady Tigers were led by Elizabeth Battelo, who scored a game-high 20 points. Battelo needs only four more points to join the 1,000-point club for a career.

The Lady Tigers will face Perry High School this Friday for senior night before facing the winner of Pawnee and Stroud next weekend in postseason action. Butt believes his team is playing some of its best ball at the right time.

“We’re feeling pretty good,” Butt said. “We’ve played some pretty good competition and avenged some losses. Things are going well for us right now. Early on in the season, there were games where we didn’t shoot very well or we turned the ball over or we didn’t play really good defense, but now it’s all starting to come together for us. I’m really excited about the next couple of weeks to just see what happens. Maybe we have another big run in us.”
