Small businesses across the nation have faced many challenges the last few months.  Logan County is home to multiple small, family owned businesses that have had to quickly adapt and adjust business practices to remain solvent.

In the heart of Crescent, OK sits Paper Pages Bookstore.  Karen & Russell Payne opened the bookstore in December 2018.  The tiny store front is stocked to the rafters with amazing books for all ages.  The store hosts book clubs for adults, youth and cooking enthusiasts.  Paper Pages also supports and sells merchandise from other local area businesses and artists such as Rural Route Roasters Coffee, D&S Designz Powder Coated Stainless Cups and Serendipity Pottery.

When small businesses  were forced to closed due to COVID-19, Karen had to imagine her bookstore serving customers in new ways.  To meet homebound customer demand, they started posting and selling items off a vibrant Facebook page.   To make shopping easy, the Payne’s started home delivery to Crescent, Guthrie & Cashion once a week.  Any item in the store was available for delivery.   And so began a new opportunity for a small business in a changing world.   Their dedication to customers and creative thinking allowed them to keep the small business thriving as well as serve a community of avid readers.  “Ultimately, no matter how creative a business gets it comes down to community support.  We are so grateful that the surrounding communities helped to see us through this very unusual and difficult time” commented Karen.

Paper Pages Bookstore has not only adjusted how they do business, but they are expanding their reach.  This past weekend, Paper Pages Bookstore, along with bookstores and musicians across the nation participated in BOOKSTOCK2020.  The event served as a fundraiser supporting both indie booksellers and musicians during COVID-19.  Paper Pages Bookstore was proud to host the Wagon Wheel Band for this live event.  The event was aimed at bringing books and the creative community together to support each other.  For more information on making a donation to support the musicians and bookstores, visit www.bookstockcoop.com

Changing times require new and creative ventures.  Paper Pages Bookstore is just getting started!  Stop in, browse a shelf, sit and visit, join a book club.
