Lady Bluejays back in action, 1-4 in Bixby Tournament

The Guthrie High School Lady Bluejays finally got back on the field for some action after rain played havoc with the schedule earlier in the week and last week. The Lady ‘Jays had not gotten a full game in since Aug. 28 against Bethany. The Lady ‘Jays are now 7-11 after a rough 1-4 weekend in Bixby this weekend with four games on tap for the week.

Guthrie-5 Collinsville-4

The Lady ‘Jays took advantage of a first inning three-run home run by Elaina Clark to jump out to an early 4-1 lead and then held on for the 5-4 win.

Ashlee Eichler got the win in the circle going the distance allowing seven hits and striking out two.

Guthrie was led offensively by Eadie Jobe with three hits and the other two runs batted in. Abbie Eichler chipped in with two hits. Trinity LeGrande, Ashlee Eichler, and McKenna Tucker with a double contributed the remaining hits. Collinsville had seven hits in the game. Each team committed two errors.

Jenks-5 Guthrie -2

The Lady Bluejays took advantage of seven walks to score their two runs but did not muster a hit against their Class 6A opponent. Guthrie led 2-1 when Jenks scored four runs in the third inning to secure the win. Ashlee Eichler went the distance in the circle and took the loss, surrendering six hits and three earned runs, striking out one Jenks batter.

The nightcap in Bixby was not pretty, as the Lady ‘Jays committed even errors in the game and gave up seven runs in the fifth inning to lose 12-4. The Lady ‘Jays did get nine hits that were highlighted by doubles from Jules Leach, Addy Awbrey, Clark, LeGrande, and Tucker. Ashlee Eichler, LeGrande and Tucker had two hits apiece in the game. Abbie Eichler was the losing pitcher and lasted a little over an inning. LeGrande and Ashlee Eichler also took turns in the circle.

Another big inning did the Lady ‘Jays in Saturday afternoon, as an eight-run fifth inning ended the game due to run-rule. The Lady ‘Jays could only scratch hits together by LeGrande and the Eichler sisters and scored their lone run in the first inning. Ashlee Eichler took the loss as she surrendered 11 runs on 11 hits with only two of the runs being earned because of six Guthrie errors in the game.

Sapulpa-10 Guthrie-2

Guthrie could only muster five hits in the game as Sapulpa got 14 hits in run-ruling the Lady ‘Jays 10-2 in five innings.

Abbie Eichler got two of the five hits, including a double. Ashlee Eichler, Tucker and Jobe accounted for the other hits. LeGrande started in the circle and took the loss going two innings giving up five runs and eight hits. Abbie Eichler went two innings, surrendering two runs on two hits and four base-on-balls. Tucker pitched the last inning giving up three runs and four hits in the inning.

The Lady Bluejays (7-11,3-0) have a big week as they had a key district game with Piedmont (16-3,5-0) last night and play Noble (5- 11,3-3) tomorrow night before hitting the road for games at Guymon (11- 6,1-0) on Saturday for a double header and then to Del City (Sept. 21) and Piedmont (Sept. 22) before returning home Sept. 24.
