The Coyle High School football team finally got to play a game Friday night, and the inexperience and lack of practice showed as Yale beat the Bluejackets 46-0.
The game was ended in the third quarter due to mercy rule.
Because of the COVID-19 issues at the school the last month, the team had to forgo two weeks of scheduled scrimmages and week one of the regular season.
That and missing practice time showed, along with having eight freshmen on the13-man roster showed the learning curve the team will be up against this season. The team played hard, but with only one senior and one junior that have had any previous playing time, it was tough on everyone.
The Bluejackets jump right back into the fire this weekend as they take on Class B Garber in an away game. The Wolverines are 2-0 so far this year.
Coyle returns home to face Sasawka on Sept. 25 to open district play. Sasawka has the #1 running back in Class B and C and are probably the #1 team in Class C this season.
