The Coyle faithful showed up last Friday night to honor senior football player Caleb Martin and senior cheerleader/softball player Aubrey Taylor in pregame ceremonies.
Unfortunately, the young football team with five freshmen could not hold onto a 16-14 halftime lead and dropped the home finale to Oaks Mission 46-16.
Oaks Mission took an early 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter before Coyle got a Kris Boynton touchdown run and twopoint conversion for an 8-6 lead with 10:55 to go in the second quarter.
Martin would then get a scoop and score fumble recovery for ten yards, and the Boynton conversion would make it 16-14 at the half.
That would be it for the Bluejackets, as Oaks Mission would score three times in the third quarter on several long runs, and it was 38-16 after three quarters.
The visitors scored in the closing minutes of the game to win 46-16.
Boynton ran the ball 19 times for 113 yards, and Trace Clark ran the ball 21 times for 106 yards, as the Bluejackets piled up 233 yards of offense on the ground. The passing game netted them 26-yards on seven completions.
The Bluejackets will head out on a two hour bus trip to Midway this Friday night. Midway is in first place in the district at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in district play. The game starts at 7 p.m.
