Registration is now open for a one-day Guthrie Softball Camp that will be held at the Guthrie High School softball field (North of GUES) on Thursday, May 21.
The camp is open for any current first through fifth grader and is free to attend. The camp will be run by the current high school and junior high softball coaching staffs, along with past and present LadyJay softball players.
"The purpose of this camp is to teach the kids the basic fundamentals of fast pitch softball and to get them playing the right way," Guthrie Head Softball Coach Booker Blakley said. "We want to teach them the way we teach the high school players and hopefully build a foundation to work on."
The camp will specifically work on fielding, throwing, hitting and base running. The only thing campers are asked to bring are athletic clothing, cleats, glove, bat, helmet and catching gear (if applicable).
Students should be receiving a registration form at school this week, so parents should be on the look out for it. If you do not receive a form, you can register for the camp by emailing email@example.com or messaging the Guthrie LadyJay Softball page on Facebook. (To visit the page, click here.)
There is no deadline to register, as you can show up on the day of the camp and still attend.
"We would like for people to register as soon as possible because we'd like to know how many kids are going to show up," Blakley said. "We hope this year is successful and next year we can maybe make it a two or three day camp."
