Guthrie High’s football team celebrated Senior Night on Oct. 28 with a 37-0 shutout of the Lawton Eisenhower Eagles and wrapped up a playoff bid in the process.
The win gives Guthrie (7-2, 3-2) third place in the district with a road game at Shawnee (0-9, 0-5) to close out the regular season.
The Bluejays will start the playoffs on the road at the loser of Friday night’s Midwest City (7-2, 6-0) at Elgin (8-1, 5-1) district game. Elgin’s only loss this season is to Noble. Midwest City lost to Carl Albert and Del City in non-district games at the beginning of the season.
Guthrie jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Hayden Calvert got the first score on a 7-yard run; Isaiah Hammons scored four minutes later and Calvert then found Carson Wilder on a 57-yard pass play at the end of the quarter. Noah French converted all three points after touchdown.
Calvert recorded his second touchdown on a 33-yard run and it was 27-0 at the half.
French had a 25-yard field goal in the third quarter and Hammons got his second score of the night in the fourth quarter.
Calvert was 11-for-15 in the passing game for 204 yards and rushed for 68 yards. Wilder had four receptions for 106 yards to lead all receivers.
The Bluejays had 328 yards in total offense. The Eagles (2-7, 1-4) had minus- 4 yards rushing and 70 yards passing for 66 yards total. The Eagles also had four turnovers, while the Bluejays had one.
The Guthrie News Leader will have all the playoff brackets in next week’s paper.
