The Crescent High School softball team closed out the regular season with a 16-8 win over Heritage Hall on senior night.
After scoring seven runs in the first three innings, the Lady Tigers trailed Heritage Hall 8-7 heading into the bottom of the fourth. That’s when the Crescent offense exploded, doubling their score thanks to some clutch hitting.
Kaylie Counts led off the inning with a walk, followed by a double to right by Meghan Wilson. Both would come around to score before the Lady Tigers picked up two outs. That’s when Crescent broke the game open. Julian Costellow singled to right, followed by a walk by Tristen Heiden. Katie Cronister hit a 3-run RBI double to center to put Crescent in front 13-8; before Counts drove her home with a double of her own to give the Lady Tigers a commanding 14-8 lead.
Kinidi Taylor, Chloee DeFuentes and Jaylee Ross all saw time in the circle, throwing a combined six innings, giving up seven hits and picking up three strikeouts.
The Lady Tigers picked up 13 hits on the night, led by Meghan Wilson (4-4, 3 RBIs), Raychel Johnson (2-3, 2 RBIs), Julian Costellow (2-3, 4 RBIs), and Katie Cronister (1-4, 4 RBIs).
With the win, the Lady Tigers finished the regular season with a record of 16-8. Crescent will now head into the postseason where they will head to the Amber-Pocasset Regional where they will face (19-11, 10-2) Hartshorne who finished second in District 2A-4 behind (32-3, 12-0) Silo. First pitch for that game is set for Thursday at 2 p.m. The winner between Crescent and Hartshorne will likely play (28-4, 13-1) Amber Pocasset at 6 p.m.
Each team must be defeated twice to be eliminated.
