Lady Bluejays run rule the Irish to end district season

The Guthrie Lady Bluejays bounced back from the disappointing loss at Piedmont on Sept. 20 to beat Enid 11-2 and close out their district season with a double header sweep against Bishop McGuiness on Saturday.10-0 and 12-2 to finish 12-2 in district action and improve to 18-8 overall. The Lady Bluejays were in action last night in their last regular season home game against Perkins-Tryon (24-4) in Class 4A.

The Bluejays then travel to play Putnam City North, Edmond North, and Putnam City before returning home to host a regional next week.

In the Bishop McGuiness games, Guthrie ended both games in the fifth innings because of the run rule of being ahead by 10 after five innings. In the first game Ashlee Eichler went the distance allowing only two hits and striking out five batters. Abbie Eichler and Ryann Waters had two hits each and Waters drove in four runs in the game. Both Eichler girls chipped in with doubles in the game for the only extra base hits. The Lady Bluejays took advantage of five McGuiness errors, three walks, and two hit batters to score their runs. They also stole five bases.

In the second game, McKenna Tucker would go the distance, striking out six batters and walking no one, but did hit two batters. Elaina Clark went 4-for-4 in the game with two doubles at the plate, scoring a run and driving in a run as the Lady Bluejays had 11 hits in the nightcap and took advantage of six McGuiness errors.

Haley Gallo, Ashlee Eichler, Kinley Duehning all chipped in with two hits in the game Duehning and Eichler also batted in three runs each to secure the victory.

The Enid game despite the score went the distance of seven innings, as the Lady Bluejays waited until the seventh inning to push across seven runs to break open a tight game and win 11-2. Duehning went the distance in the circle giving up six hits and striking out seven Enid batters.

Offensively, Gallo had three hits and scored twice, with Jules Leach getting two hits, including a double and scored twice in the game. Ashlee Eichler had two hits, a run scored and a run batted in. Waters had a hit in her only plate appearance and drove in two runs. Eadie Jobe wrapped up the offense with two hits and three runs batted in and one run scored.

The final week of the regular season should be a good test for the Lady Bluejays as they will host a regional with Lawton Eisenhower (16-10), Southeast (14-22), and Bishop McGuiness coming to town October 5-8, but game times and brackets have not been set yet.
