Lady Bluejays to host softball regional

Guthrie High’s softball team closed the regular season with four wins and a tie to finish 22-7-1 and second in the district.

The Lady Bluejays are looking for a repeat trip to the Class 5A state tournament and will host a regional with Southeast (8-19), Altus (18-16) and Bishop Mc-Guiness (8-15). The Lady Bluejays face Southeast at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, and Altus will play Bishop McGuiness at 1 p.m. The losers play at 3 p.m. and the winners play at 5.

Thursday at noon, there is an elimination game between the two teams that have a 1-1 record. The winner of that game gets a 2 p.m. championship game with the 2-0 team for a trip to Oklahoma City next week. There is an “if necessary” game at 4 p.m.

Tickets are $8.35 for everyone and can be bought online only by finding the ticket link at OSSAA.com.

In the second game, Tucker picked up her second win as Abbie and Ashlee Eichler each had a double and Kinley Duehning had two doubles. Ryann Waters and Tucker added triples.

Guthrie won its last regular-season home game, 21-3 over Putnam City in a five-inning mercy rule game. The Pirates scored twice in the first inning, but Guthrie responded with nine in the first and seven in the second. Abbie and Ashlee Eichler each hit a home run. Tucker pitched all five innings, and had a triple, a double, and four RBI. Hebensperger, Codi Hibbs, Duehning, Abbie Eichler and Addi Doles all hit doubles.
