The Guthrie High School softball team wrapped up district play on Tuesday by picking up two wins over Guymon High School. With the pair of wins, the LadyJays finished the year with a 6-6 record in District 5A-2, good enough for fourth place.
By finishing in fourth, the LadyJays will now have to travel to 5A-1 top-seeded Carl Albert (23-4, 14-0) to play in the Lady Titans Regional. The LadyJays will face fifth-seeded Ardmore (13-16, 6-7) Wednesday, October 9th at 10 a.m. in the first game of the regional.
This is not the first time the LadyJays have squared off with Ardmore in regional tournament play. In 2017, the LadyJays traveled to play in the Ardmore regional, where Guthrie fell to the Lady Tigers 0-2 and 10-0. Last season, Guthrie hosted Ardmore, beating the Lady Tigers in the regional championship 10-0 to advance to the state tournament.
The loser between Guthrie and Ardmore will face Carl Albert at 11:45 a.m. Thursday. The winner will play the Lady Titans at 1:30 p.m.
At the end of Day 1, if one team has one loss, and one team has no losses, they will play at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 10th with the if necessary game at 4 p.m. If all teams have one loss entering the second day, Guthrie will play Ardmore again at 2 p.m. on Thursday with the winner facing Carl Albert at 4 p.m.
Each team must lose twice to be eliminated. The winner of the regional will head to the state tournament on October 17-19th.
